2009 NGA
Mr. & Mrs. Utah Natural Bodybuilding and Ms. Utah Figure
Championships
Kaysville, Utah- The NGA
Utah Bodybuilding and Figure Championship showcased some
of the best natural athletes in the northern mountain
states region. It was held at Davis High School in
Kaysville, Utah on 11 April 2009.
The 1st through 3rd place
winners in all divisions received beautiful trophies
from Neils Andersen Trophies.
The show began with a great rendition of the National
Anthem by Ron “Big Guns” Downey, who also doubled as the
MC for the evening show. Before he sung, the Weber
County Fire Department Honor Guard, led by Rich King of
the Ogden Fire Department posted the colors. Bagpipes
were played by Andy Maxwell of the Salt Lake City Fire
Department. Others in the Honor Guard were Jim Robinson
and Lee Watts (Roy City Fire), Eddie Graham, Scott
Atkinson, and Chris Clark (Ogden City Fire) and Jeff
Herriott (Hill Field Fire).
This show would feature 8
top three competitor placings under the watchful eye of
Dave Edgell (Personal Trainer and World Class Power
lifting Champion from Golds Gym of Roy, Utah). Dave
consistently produces Champion after Champion in the NGA
Natural Circuit!
The show began with 5 of
the best built teens in Utah! Eedee Nenbee showed off
his dense muscles and physique to take 1st Place. He
would later battle in the Novice category and more than
hold his own against older competitors. Erich Gardner
took a well deserved 2nd Place with a ripped physique
that gave Nenbee a run for his money! Taking the coveted
3rd Place trophy was Byron Alimbuyao. This was Byron’s
first competition and he looked at home on stage as he
displayed confidence and stage presence of a veteran!
Look for more top placings from these three competitors
in the future.
The Men’s Masters was very
competitive. Andy Pardo, a long time competitor and hard
working machine in the gym, finally took 1st Place in
one of the best divisions in the competition! Andy
displayed a very muscular and tight physique that was
hard to beat. Andy was very gracious in winning the
Masters division he for so long tried to win. It’s nice
to see a competitor of Andy’s caliber finally take home
the 2009 Masters Natural Utah Champion title! Andy held
off strong competition from 2nd Place Scott Lewis and
3rd Place Bruce Rigby.
The Men’s Novice
Lightweight class displayed 12 polished physiques. Five
placings were given in this large division. This
outstanding class was led by Chet Thompson, who was one
half of the Thompson brothers, Nick being the other, who
took first in their respective Novice categories. Chet
came in striated and symmetry unmatched in a group of
lightweights that shocked the crowd with their
unbelievable muscle on 150-60 pound physiques! Taking
2nd Place was Matt Faxon, 3rd Place went to Chris
Averett for the second straight year, 4th Place to Jacob
Hoopes and 5th Place to Blake Stringham.
The Novice Middleweight
Class displayed lots of muscle and striated cuts on
incredible physiques that confirmed that some of the
best muscle at the competition was in the middleweight
division! Jeff Pederson took the first place trophy home
followed closely by Todd Roberts and Elvir Tatarevic
respectively.
The Novice Heavyweight Class was owned by non-other than
the bigger half of the Thompson brothers…Nick. This was
Nick’s first contest and boy did he show up dialed and
ready to hammer his competition! Nick brought muscle,
definition and poise to the stage to take the #1 spot.
He was followed by Steven Buck and Adam Pixton
respectively.
Women’s Open Bodybuilding
Class featured 2 very well built and beautiful ladies
who flexed their muscle for the packed crowd who came to
see good quality female muscle, and that is just what
they got! Taking first place was Alycia Nelson whose
shoulders looked striated as I have ever seen on a
female bodybuilder! Her stage presence had confidence
written all over it as she gave the audience and judges
a fabulous show! Taking a close second was Wendy
Ciampini who looked well prepared, perfectly muscled and
ripped, but yet very feminine with fine lines. Wendy
used this competition as a warm-up for her Pro Show in
Idaho Falls next weekend. From the looks of it….she will
do well in her first Pro Show!
After intermission, was
the Ms Figure, which featured 21 of the most beautiful
ladies in the mountain states region! This was by far
the largest group of Figure women ever assembled on a
Utah stage! It goes to show that the Figure Class is
gaining more and more popularity and a crowd favorite!
The ladies displayed excellent poise and stage presence.
In the Short Class, Amy
Quintanal took 1st Place. Her beauty and fine symmetry
combined to make her unbeatable this night. Amy also
took the Overall Utah Ms Figure Championship beating out
Medium Class winner Andrea Bastian and Tall Class winner
Loraine Toone. Jill Nix displayed elegance, beauty and
outstanding stage presence and took 2nd Place. Billi
Stephens, a veteran of the Figure stage, took 3rd Place
showing good things come in small packages as she looked
flawless and will continue to be a huge force to reckon
with in the Figure arena for years to come! If the Short
Class did not get the fans in a frenzy, the Medium Class
sure did! All these ladies did their homework and made
it tough on the judges to pick a winner. Andrea Bastian
displayed a very tight and beautiful physique closely
beating out Karli Brent and Heidi Carter respectively.
The Tall Class was won by Loraine Toone and followed
closely by Aubrie Richeson, who works out at Golds Gym
in Roy, Utah, and Danna Roberts. All the ladies
presented a tight physique, awesome lines and femininity
that are the standard for all Figure women to try and
achieve.
Last event of the night
featured the Men’s Open Class. It was divided up into a
light, middle and heavy class. The lightweight class
brought well conditioned and full muscle bellied
physiques to the stage. The class was won by Dan Herrin
and followed closely by Dustin Biegenwald and Jeremy
Yearsley. The middleweight class would produce the
overall 2009 Natural Mr Utah in Chad Brann who could not
be beat this night! Chad brought thick muscles and
striated conditioning to the stage and would not be
denied. He is a humble competitor who graciously
accepted his trophy and took the time to talk to his
fellow competitors backstage. Chad will no doubt earn
his Pro Card soon and begin to take aim at that level in
the upcoming years! The heavy class showcased pure
strength and raw muscle density! These big guys shook
the stage as they walked out to do battle. Jan Meyer won
a close decision over Ted Rich (Owner of Gym Hard Wear)
and Jeff Schuman.
